Are you an HRD in relocation/exile? We want to hear from you!

Since October, International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) has been undertaking research aimed at improving long-term support to human rights defenders (HRDs) living in relocation/exile and thereby the sustainability of their work. Today, we’re launching an online survey to collect the experiences of a wider group. So far we’ve been collecting the experiences of these HRDs and actors working to support them through in-depth interviews, focus groups, and roundtable events.

By analysing the experiences of these individuals we seek to identify key areas to be improved and the concrete steps necessary to do so. By the end of the project, we will produce a set of evidence-based recommendations to stimulate a wider discussion among the protection community regarding the implementation of improved support and that will inform future programming.

If you are an HRD living in relocation/exile, we would love to hear from you. We would highly appreciate it if you could participate in the research and contribute to its conclusions and recommendations by completing the survey you’ll find linked below in either English, Russian, or French. The process will take you ~20 minutes. The inputs we receive during the data collection process will be anonymised and included in the final report in the aggregated way; quotes will have no attribution.

The ideal respondent is a human rights defender from either the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Central and South Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, or Asia who is currently living or has previously lived in exile or otherwise been relocated (NB: in exile / relocated means you do not currently live in your country of origin, having left in connection with your human rights work). We would especially like to hear from women with children, people belonging to the LGBTIQ community, and people belonging to ethnic or religious minorities in either their country of origin or country of residence.

Once the data has been collected, we will produce an evidence-based report with recommendations that will be made publicly available.

We have two blocks of questions, one is related to the context and circumstances leading to your relocation/exile and the other one is related to your experience with the relocation process and life and work in relocation/exile.

Please, note that depending on your answers, you may not see all the questions.
